Mad Max: Fury Road

After decades of speculation, we are only weeks away from a new adventure through post-apocalyptic earth.

Fans of the Mad Max franchise have been waiting for this for nearly a quarter century. Those of us a little too young to see Max in the theaters, became fans by renting VHS versions, catching the films on basic cable, or waxing nostalgic with a six plus hour Mad Max Netflix binge. And I’m sure Mel Gibson, who jumped from little known Aussie actor to Hollywood superstar with his portrayal of Max Rockatansky, had to agree father time catches up to all of us and an age appropriate Max needed to be cast.(well that or his equivalent of being black balled from Hollywood for his anti-Semitic comments).

Mad Max: Fury Road reintroduces us to Max, the reluctant hero, doing what he does best, being a Road Warrior. The title could have just as easily been Road Warrior II. From the previews and trailers, director George Miller, who directed and wrote the previous films in the franchise, captures the viewers’ attention with amazing vehicle creations and action packed chases, in his now infamous desert nothingness road warrior setting.

The premise of Fury Road introduces us to Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron. Furiosa is on the run from the movies antagonist Immortan Joe. She stole some key attributes for his evil plans, five young women kept as objects to mother the next generation of marauding nomads. Furiosa and the other girls seek out and find Max, played by British actor, Tom Hardy. Max has a reputation for being amazingly successful crossing this wasteland and foiling Immortan Joe and his gangs vehicles of death.

A key component to Max’s success is the vehicle he created to fend off enemies and literally mow down anything in his way. The Interceptor is almost a character on its own. Just like such famous vehicles like The General Lee, Knight Riders K.I.T.T., and Back to the Future’s DeLorean, Mad Max and his all black Interceptor have a symbiotic relationship that gives the vehicle life-like characteristics, making Max hard an even more likeable protagonist. Mad Max: Fury Road introduces us to an all-new version of the Interceptor with plenty of surprise additions guaranteed to help Max hold his own during the Road Wars against his enemies in this barren wasteland.

Mad Max: Fury Road looks like an action packed, explosion filled thriller of a film. Director George Miller has meticulously put together another edge of your seat story, with mind-blowing vehicles, creative weapons and amazing car chases, some that have gotten a sneak peak have murmured it is one long Road War, which in my opinion is the most entertaining aspect of the Mad Max franchise. Mad Max: Fury Road opens worldwide May 15, 2015. Until then I suggest taking in a Mad Max viewing session and brushing up on George Miller’s vision of the world and its inhabitant’s post-apocalypse.
